Sam Lewis has been working with plants since 2009. Born and raised in New York City, he first became interested in horticulture when he moved to Southern California to attend Pomona College. In California, he worked on vegetable farms, a permaculture farm, a citrus grove, and a date farm in the desert. Following his time in California, he moved to Arkansas for a year to learn about organic cut flower production. In 2016, Sam moved back to New York City and founded Samuel Lewis Landscapes LLC while managing a job skills training program for at-risk youth at the Horticultural Society of New York. Sam continued Lewis Landscapes while working for two years as the head gardener for Groundworks Inc., a Brooklyn based boutique garden design/maintenance firm. At Groundworks, Sam honed his gardening skills by taking care of over fifty private gardens in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Currently, Sam works part-time as Director of Gardens at the Old Stone House in Park Slope and devotes the rest of his time to Samuel Lewis Landscapes LLC.
